Spain
Gades: Modern day Cadiz, founded by the Phoenicians around 1,100 BC, was Carthage's
elder sister city. It is possibly the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe.
New Carthage: Founded around 227 BC by Hasdrubal, Hamilcar's successor
as ruler of Spain, to consolidate Carthaginian control of the region.
Saguntum: Hannibal's seige of Suguntum in 219 BC was
the Roman pretext for begining the Second Punic War. Rome assasinated pro-Carthaginian Saguntines and encouraged the
rest to attack Carthagininan allies, forcing Hannibal's hand.
