web_books

Web_books are companions. They are publications that give you additional information about the subject matter of a book.

One of the ironies of ebooks is the limitations they impose on the use of images. A map that might reproduce beautifuly on your ipad may be crap on a Kindle, and so on.

The ebook formatters are starting to work around the image problem. They used to advise authors not to use images at all. But even now they they are still limited to what you can insert into a Word doc.

Hence the web-book companions. They contain maps, links and images to enhance your experience, to add another dimension to your ebook.

In the web_book companions you will find images; photographs of locations to help you visualise the action and locations.

There are also maps to enable you to place the story in its context. Very old maps, in many cases, things of beauty in thier own right.

You can also use everyday tools like Google Maps to visit the sites of ancient battles.Use street view to walk in Hannibal's steps.

I have also included links to other sites that I have found in researching the books. Look up the sources yourself, if you wish; perhaps your conclusions differ from mine....

That is the other feature of the web_book comapanions; they are interactive. Each is linked to a blog site where you can upload images, links or information which you think would be interesting to other readers.

Also, each of my historical novels contains themes; positions, interpretations of the evidence. There are possibly others.

For example, the traditional view is that the Romans were a civilising influence on the ancient world. I present them as a book-burning equivalent of Hitler's regime; as a force that retarded the development of the world.

Similarly, it is traditionally said that the Second Punic War was the result of Hannibal's hatred of the Romans. I could not disagree more.

The companions and their associated blogs are there to provide a forum. If you agree or disagree with the interpretations I have used, then they are there for you to argue your case!
